Worst pre-Hinge date?
This one was on me. I was 20 years old, and went out for a drink with an older girl. I even suggested the place, so I was feeling very cool and confident… and then the bouncer wouldn’t let me into the bar.
You dropped out of Harvard to start a successful startup headed in San Francisco… sounds familiar! Can we get the Zuckerberg story behind FlightCar?
I’d heard about Airbnb, and one day I was discussing the sharing economy with my friend (and now cofounder) Kevin Petrovic. We immediately realized the huge inefficiency in the car rental market, and I dropped out in 2012 to start and develop FlightCar.
In a nutshell, FlightCar is the world’s first peer-to-peer car sharing company operating at airports. Essentially, vehicle owners get free airport parking by renting out their cars to other, incoming travelers, fully insured. When we launched in 2013, we’d wash and vacuum the cars ourselves, and 1-866-FLIGHTCAR redirected to my personal iPhone. We’re now in 11 cities, have raised almost $20 million, and the FlightCar community now includes over 50,000 members! No pun intended, it’s been a crazy ride.
